The WVU Tech Athletic Department has announced its Golden Bear Athletes of the Week for Nov. 10–16, 2025. This week’s honors go to senior Julian Diaz and freshman Hugo Roman of WVU Tech men’s soccer, who delivered standout performances in the River States Conference Championship.
Julian Diaz (Uberlândia, Minas, Brazil)
Diaz was a defensive force in Wednesday’s 2–1 win over No. 2 Rio Grande, helping shut down one of the conference’s top attacks. The senior center back played all 90 minutes, holding the RedStorm to just one goal on 16 total shots while organizing a back line that remained composed under pressure. Diaz’s leadership and consistency were pivotal in securing Tech’s RSC title.
Hugo Roman (Sollentuna, Stockholm, Sweden)
Roman stepped up with the championship-winning moment, burying the decisive goal in the 64th minute of Tech’s 2–1 victory over Rio Grande. The freshman delivered two shots on goal in the match and continued to showcase his two-way impact, adding to a strong debut season that includes three goals and six assists. His strike lifted the Golden Bears to their second win over Rio in four weeks and sealed the conference crown.
