Golden Bears Earn Two Top-Four Finishes at SE Open

Wrestling

LAKELAND, Fla. — WVU Tech wrestling continued its early-season development Saturday at the Southeastern Open, producing two top-four finishers and several strong individual efforts against a large, multi-division field.

Freshmen Landon Morris and Luke Carpenter each delivered breakout performances, posting identical 2–2 records to finish fourth at 133 and 141 pounds, respectively. The Golden Bears also saw multiple wrestlers earn wins across five weight classes, including decisive tech falls, majors and late-match falls that highlighted the roster's progress.

Morris battled through a demanding 133-pound bracket, earning two pins and a late win over teammate Blayson Jordan, while Carpenter surged back from an 0–2 start to win his final two bouts — including a commanding 23–7 tech fall — to claim fourth at 141.

At 125, freshman David Maxson picked up a pair of dominant victories, including a 13–5 major decision and an 18–2 tech fall, before finishing the afternoon 2–2. Seniors Maxwell Underwood and Shannon Fray each recorded wins in their respective divisions, while Jordan, Corbyn Cunningham and several underclassmen contributed competitive outings.

The event marked WVU Tech's final competition of the semester before shifting focus toward January tournament action.
