BECKLEY, W.Va. - WVU Tech men's basketball earned a hard-fought River States Conference win Tuesday night, rallying past Rio Grande for a 66-64 decision at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center. The Golden Bears improved to 6-10 overall and 3-3 in RSC play, while the RedStorm moved to 7-11 overall and 2-4 in the league.
Rio Grande led 36-29 at the break, but Tech responded with its best stretch after halftime, outscoring the visitors 37-28 over the final 20 minutes to complete the comeback.
The Golden Bears leaned on balanced offense and timely defensive stops, finishing with 16 assists and four blocks while holding Rio Grande to 38.3 percent shooting for the game.
Golden Bear Highlights
Ian Goings led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting, including three triples, while adding eight rebounds and four assists.
Brandon Moore added 17 points and five assists, knocking down three three-pointers.
Jakyren Woods finished with nine points and a team-high eight rebounds, and Tech got eight points from Trayten Woods.
Off the bench, Roman Kellum chipped in seven points, five rebounds and a pair of assists.
