RICHMOND, Ind. — WVU Tech women's basketball opened the new year and continued River States Conference play Saturday afternoon, dropping a 74–65 decision at Indiana University East. The Golden Bears moved to 8–3 overall and 0–2 in league play, while the Red Wolves improved to 6–7 and 2–0 in the RSC.
WVU Tech kept pace early and trailed by just two at the end of the first quarter before IU East used steady interior scoring and trips to the free-throw line to build separation over the middle quarters. The Golden Bears cut the deficit to single digits late but were unable to fully close the gap down the stretch.
Tech finished the afternoon shooting 37.5 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three, while IU East shot 43.8 percent overall and converted 15 free throws to help control the tempo. The Red Wolves also held a rebounding edge and capitalized on second-chance opportunities.
Golden Bear Highlights
Cadence Stewart led WVU Tech with 12 points, knocking down multiple three-pointers and adding six rebounds while logging 29 minutes. The junior guard continued to provide consistent perimeter scoring in conference play.
Maggie Boroski delivered a strong performance off the bench, finishing with 9 points on 4-of-7 shooting while adding three rebounds and energy on both ends. The freshman guard played a key role during Tech's second-half push.
Alaira Evans contributed 8 points and two rebounds, shooting efficiently from the floor and providing a steady presence in the frontcourt. Emily Wratchford added 6 points, three assists and two rebounds while helping facilitate the offense.
Alexis Sexton pulled down four rebounds and chipped in five points, while Kyra Brown added five points and a pair of assists. Emmanuella Amaefula finished with five points and two assists, continuing to direct the offense in extended minutes.
How Tech Stacked Up vs. IU East
IU East entered the matchup riding a four-game winning streak and undefeated in conference play. WVU Tech:
- Shot 37.5 percent from the field and matched IU East from three.
- Was outrebounded 40–32, including an 11–7 margin on the offensive glass.
