BECKLEY, W.Va. – WVU Tech men's basketball showed strong efficiency on the offensive end Tuesday night, but Rio Grande pulled away in the second half as the Golden Bears fell 80-68 in River States Conference (RSC) action at Newt Oliver Arena.
WVU Tech moves to 9-14 overall and 6-7 in RSC play, while Rio Grande improved to 13-11 overall and 8-4 in the conference.
The Golden Bears were right there at the break, trailing 39-34, and finished the night shooting 50.9 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three (7-of-18). Tech also scored 34 points in the paint and got 16 points from its bench.
Golden Bear Highlights
Brandon Moore led WVU Tech with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, adding five rebounds and two assists.
Ian Goings continued his strong stretch with 14 points and six rebounds, knocking down 2-of-5 from three.
Trayten Woods finished with nine points and added a pair of steals, while Jackson Tackett chipped in seven points and five assists on 3-of-5 shooting.
Cole Chapman and Liam Craven provided key minutes off the bench with six points apiece, and Chapman also grabbed four rebounds.
Conference Outlook
WVU Tech remains fourth in the RSC East Division at 6-7, staying in the hunt for the conference tournament picture with the final stretch ahead.
