HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – WVU Tech baseball adjusted on the fly to beat incoming weather, hosting Lawrence Technological University for a Saturday tripleheader at Jack Cook Field. The Golden Bears opened the day with a 6-2 win before dropping the next two games, 7-4 and 9-4. Sunday's scheduled game was canceled due to weather. WVU Tech is now 3-7 overall.
Game 1 – WVU Tech 6, Lawrence Tech 2
Lawrence Tech scored an unearned run in the first, but the Golden Bears responded quickly and stayed in control from there. WVU Tech tied the game in the second after Angel Leiva doubled, moved to third on a balk, and scored on an RBI groundout by Cody Cooper.
Tech added a run in the fourth, then broke the game open with a three-run fifth highlighted by a two-run homer from Joshua Tibbits. WVU Tech added one more in the sixth to extend the lead and close the door.
Cole Brown earned the win with five strong innings, allowing just one unearned run while striking out three. Braedan Pakkala finished it off in relief, striking out three over the final two innings. Leiva (2-for-3) and Maddex Sims each had hits, while the Golden Bears added pressure on the bases with four stolen bags in the opener.
Game 2 – Lawrence Tech 7, WVU Tech 4
Lawrence Tech jumped out early with three runs in the first, but WVU Tech answered with a three-run third to pull even. Jake Tompkins delivered the biggest swing of the inning, driving in a pair, and the Golden Bears kept the pressure on with quality at-bats throughout the middle frames.
The visitors reclaimed momentum with a four-run fourth to go back in front, and WVU Tech continued to battle but could not fully close the gap. Angel Leiva went 2-for-4, Tompkins finished with two RBIs, and Cody Cooper added a pair of hits. Out of the bullpen, Jonas Franti turned in 2.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts, and Dale Boone followed with a clean frame that included two more punchouts.
Game 3 – Lawrence Tech 9, WVU Tech 4
WVU Tech made its push late, scoring four runs in the seventh to bring energy back into the ballpark. Gabe Templeton sparked the rally with a pinch-hit triple, and Tompkins came through again with a two-run hit to help Tech climb back on the scoreboard.
Lawrence Tech built its lead earlier with runs in five different innings, and WVU Tech kept competing to the final out as the day stretched into a third game.
