Golden Bears close regular season at Convention Center

Men's Basketball

BECKLEY, W.Va. – WVU Tech men's basketball closed the regular season Saturday evening with an 88-84 River States Conference setback to Indiana University East at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center.

The Golden Bears finish the regular season 11-15 overall and 8-8 in conference play, earning the No. 4 seed in the RSC East Division and a spot in the upcoming conference tournament.

Tech set the tone early, building a 51-37 halftime lead and pushing the advantage to 17 in the opening half. IU East chipped away throughout the second half and converted key possessions late, but the Golden Bears stayed within one score down the stretch behind efficient shooting and steady offensive execution.

WVU Tech shot 50.9 percent from the field (28-of-55), went 20-of-22 at the free-throw line (90.9 percent), and finished with 16 assists and 37 rebounds.

Golden Bear Highlights
Jackson Tackett led all scorers with 25 points on 9-of-10 shooting and added six rebounds and three assists.

Trayten Woods provided a major lift off the bench with 22 points, going 9-of-10 at the free-throw line while knocking down three 3-pointers.

Brandon Moore finished with 15 points, a team-high eight rebounds and five assists.

Jakyren Woods added 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, and Cole Chapman chipped in six points with four assists and five rebounds.

Senior Night and Homecoming
Prior to tipoff, the Golden Bears recognized seniors Liam Craven and Benton Wofford II for their dedication to the program. Craven was also crowned Homecoming Royalty at halftime in front of the Beckley crowd.

Conference Championship Outlook
WVU Tech heads into the postseason as the No. 4 seed from the RSC East Division and will travel to face No. 1 West seed Indiana University Kokomo in the opening round of the River States Conference Championship.
