Tech tops Kentucky Christian in RSC home win

Men's Basketball

BECKLEY, W.Va. – WVU Tech men's basketball picked up a key River States Conference victory Tuesday night, defeating Kentucky Christian, 87–72, at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center.

The Golden Bears improved to 8-13 overall and 5-6 in RSC play, while Kentucky Christian fell to 7-14 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

WVU Tech set the tone early, building a 43-33 halftime lead, and never let Kentucky Christian get closer than eight points the rest of the way. The Golden Bears shot 64.3 percent in the second half, finishing the night at 53.1 percent from the field.

Golden Bear Highlights

Ian Goings led all scorers with 25 points, knocking down 5-of-7 from three-point range while adding seven rebounds.

Brandon Moore followed with 18 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, recording a double-double to anchor the Golden Bears on both ends.

Jakyren Woods provided a strong interior presence, scoring 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including several key baskets during WVU Tech's second-half push.

Jackson Tackett chipped in 10 points, while Trayten Woods added eight points and five assists.

Off the bench, Cole Chapman dished out seven assists, and Roman Kellum pulled down five rebounds.

WVU Tech finished with a 41-40 rebounding edge, scored 42 points in the paint and held Kentucky Christian to 39.7 percent shooting.

For Kentucky Christian, LeMar Northington II scored 15 points, while Xarek Sarakatsannis added 13 points and Markell Hood finished with 12.

Conference Outlook

With the win, WVU Tech is fourth in the RSC East Division at 5-6, holding onto the final conference tournament spot. Kentucky Christian sits fifth in the East at 4-7.

What's Next

WVU Tech stays home Thursday, hosting Virginia University of Lynchburg in a 5 p.m. matchup in Van Meter Gym.
