Golden Bears secure playoff spot with sweep

BECKLEY, W.Va. - WVU Tech League of Legends secured a postseason berth Thursday night with a 2-0 victory over Carthage College in NECC Division VI (East B) play inside the Golden Bear Esports Lab.

The Golden Bears controlled both maps of the series and used the win to officially clinch a spot in the upcoming NECC playoffs.

WVU Tech competed with the five-player lineup of:

Game 1 - WVU Tech 22, Carthage 17

The Golden Bears opened the night with a steady performance in a 42-minute contest, pulling away in the late game after several decisive teamfights.

Hilbert led the Golden Bears offensively with 12 kills while Dietz provided strong setup and utility with 19 assists as WVU Tech closed out the opening map.

Game 2 - WVU Tech 22, Carthage 22

The second game proved to be a tightly contested battle that stretched past the 45-minute mark. Despite the even kill total, WVU Tech controlled key objectives and structures late to secure the series-clinching victory.

Stover paced the Golden Bears with seven kills in the deciding map while Hilbert added six kills and ten assists to help close out the sweep.

The victory secured WVU Tech a place in the NECC Division VI (East B) postseason.

WVU Tech closes the regular season Sunday, March 15, facing CC of Allegheny County-Allegheny at 8:00 p.m. from the Golden Bear Esports Lab.
