Tech posts two meet records at Concord Open

Women's and Men's Track & Field

ATHENS, W.Va. — WVU Tech track and field delivered a strong showing Friday at the Concord Open, with the Golden Bear men placing fourth with 62 points and the women finishing sixth with 29 points. The day was highlighted by two meet records, five podium finishes and a number of personal-best efforts across the lineup.

Freshman Isaac Agee led the way with one of the top performances of the meet, winning the 110-meter hurdles in a meet-record time of 14.79. Agee also placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.65 meters, ran 23.21 in the 200 meters and helped WVU Tech's 4x100-meter relay team place fourth in 44.22.

Junior Corbyn Cunningham added another meet record in the field events, clearing 3.45 meters in the pole vault to place second and secure a podium finish for the Golden Bears.

Freshman Ralph Aaron Etaba Ateba also reached the podium, placing third in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.52. He added personal-best efforts in both the 200 meters (23.36) and 400 meters (51.56) and joined Agee, Chucky Jordan and Carlos Parra Soto on WVU Tech's fourth-place 4x100-meter relay team.

Freshman Brady Smith added another podium finish in the field events, placing third in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 12.39 meters.

On the women's side, freshman Hailey Ervin delivered WVU Tech's top finish, placing second in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.38. Ervin also finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 4.78 meters and added a 28.42 in the 200 meters.

Freshman Rebecca H. Lorincz turned in a strong double, placing fifth in the 200 meters in 27.61 and sixth in the 400 meters with a personal-best 1:00.77. Freshman Jadyn Farmer added personal-best efforts in both the 400 meters (1:04.34) and 200 meters (29.65), while sophomore Lexie Wikel posted a fourth-place finish in the 1500 meters with a personal-best 5:29.14. Peyton Asbury competed in both the 800 meters (3:26.07) and 1500 meters (6:47.08).

WVU Tech showed depth in the men's sprint events as well. In the 100 meters, Carlos Parra Soto (11.45) and Athman Musinde (11.49) both recorded personal bests, while Christian Piewe (12.07), Owen Cameron (12.61) and Iain Furman (13.66) also competed. In the 200 meters, Parra Soto (23.20), Musinde (23.35) and Etaba Ateba (23.36) all posted personal bests, with Chucky Jordan (24.11), Cameron (25.13) and Furman (28.14) adding additional efforts.

In the middle-distance events, Tommy Wikel placed fourth in the 800 meters with a season-best 2:03.86, while Jan Ponsa (2:06.00), David Maxson (2:09.02), Christian Saffouri (2:15.77) and Eli Jordan (2:16.74) rounded out the event group. Evan McElwayne added a personal-best 4:21.12 for sixth in the 1500 meters, and Travis Anderson ran 18:39.66 in the 5000 meters.

In the field events, Colton Henderson placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 34.82 meters and added a 10.62-meter mark in the shot put. Jonathan Cantley (10.58m) and Matthew Rhodes (9.86m) also contributed in the shot put. On the women's side, Abigail Holley competed in both the discus (14.05m) and shot put (6.74m), while Nevaeh Wooding placed seventh in the high jump with a clearance of 1.30 meters.

WVU Tech also saw its 4x400-meter relay team place fifth in 3:51.73, as Maxson, Eli Jordan, Ponsa and Wikel combined for another scoring finish.

With two meet records, five podium finishes and scoring efforts on both the men's and women's sides, the Golden Bears continued to build momentum heading deeper into the outdoor season.
