Golden Bears sweep Idaho, reach semis

BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech Super Smash Bros. Ultimate advanced to the ECAC Division B semifinal Monday night with a 2-0 playoff victory over the University of Idaho inside the Golden Bear Esports Lab.

The Golden Bears earned a 12-10 win in Game One before closing the match with a narrow 12-11 decision in Game Two to secure the sweep in Playoffs Round 2.


Game One — WVU Tech 12, Idaho 10

Ralph Aaron Etaba Ateba (Wreck) opened the crew battle on Ken and delivered four stocks against Kazuya and Little Mac to establish early control.

Evan Ingram (Dunks) followed on Donkey Kong, adding three stocks while battling Little Mac and Luigi to keep the momentum on Tech's side.

Mark Imbing (Markieblue) contributed three stocks on Wii Fit Trainer against Luigi and King K. Rool, and Tyler Vines (Typoint5) closed out the opener with two stocks on R.O.B. to secure the 12-10 victory.


Game Two — WVU Tech 12, Idaho 11

Rylan Ellison (RyeBread) set the tone in Game Two on Joker, taking three stocks to give the Golden Bears an early push.

Wreck entered on Chrom but did not record a stock in the second game.

Dunks turned in the defining performance of the night on Falco, tallying seven stocks across his run through Idaho's lineup to swing the match back in Tech's favor.

Typoint5 finished the job on Villager with two stocks to clinch the 12-11 win and complete the sweep.
