BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech volleyball claimed a tightly contested second set and posted several season-best performances Friday night before Midway University earned a 3-1 decision at Van Meter Gym.
The Golden Bears (0-17, 0-4) fell 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-14. Tech answered after the opening set with a 25-22 win in the second, working through eight ties and five lead changes to even the match.
WVU Tech put down 11 kills in the second and hit .154. The Golden Bears' most efficient offensive set came in the fourth, when they recorded 11 kills with just two errors on 31 swings for a .290 hitting percentage.
Aniston Treadway led the Golden Bear attack with a season-high 14 kills, committing just four errors on 38 swings to hit .263. She added 11 digs and two solo blocks to finish with a team-high 16 points.
At the net, Eden Miller turned in a strong defensive performance with five solo blocks while adding four kills. Miller's five blocks helped Tech finish with a season-high nine team blocks.
Addison White directed the offense with 31 assists and added 12 digs for a double-double. Ivana Burgos anchored the back row with a season-high 24 digs, while also adding two assists and a service ace.
Gabriela Lattu finished with six kills and two solo blocks, while freshman Maura O'Niell added six kills, six digs and a service ace. Hailey Ervin contributed two service aces and three digs.
WVU Tech finished with 36 kills, 36 assists, 75 digs and nine total blocks while hitting .112. The 75 digs and nine blocks were both season highs, while the 36 assists matched Tech's second-highest total of the season.
