WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Gonzalo Sabeh recorded a hat trick and added an assist Saturday as WVU Tech men's soccer rolled to a 7-1 road victory over Carolina University at Bryan Park.
The Golden Bears improved to 3-1-3 with their second consecutive victory and scored seven goals from five different players.
Tech wasted little time getting on the board. Sabeh opened the scoring at 4:50, but Carolina answered just 25 seconds later when Jordan Julien found the back of the net to make it 1-1.
The Golden Bears regained the lead in the 19th minute. Sabeh set up Gonzalo Colman, who scored at 18:19 to put Tech ahead 2-1.
Junior Joost Hermeling extended the advantage less than five minutes later, finding the back of the net at 22:58 for his fourth goal of the season.
Tech added one more before halftime. Benjamin Niles connected with Linus Kleinewiese at 43:16, and Kleinewiese finished to send the Golden Bears into the break with a 4-1 lead.
WVU Tech continued to control the match in the second half, producing 18 shots while limiting Carolina to just one.
Sabeh scored his second goal of the night at 59:54 off an assist from Kleinewiese, pushing the lead to 5-1.
The sophomore completed his hat trick in the 82nd minute. Oliver Bonning provided the assist before Sabeh scored at 81:05 for his third goal of the match and fifth of the season.
Wilfredo Briceño closed out the scoring at 87:44, finding the back of the net to give Tech its 7-1 final margin.
Sabeh finished with three goals and one assist on six shots, putting four on target. Colman, Hermeling, Kleinewiese and Briceño each scored once, while Niles, Kleinewiese and Bonning joined Sabeh with assists.
The Golden Bears finished with a 27-6 advantage in shots and a 14-3 edge in shots on goal. Tech also earned 10 corner kicks while allowing Carolina just one.
Ramon Ferrari started in goal and made one save before Enrico Reginatto entered in the second half. Reginatto made one save and did not allow a goal over his 24:04 of action.
Through seven matches, WVU Tech has scored 19 goals and is averaging 2.71 goals per game. The Golden Bears are now 2-1-2 away from home.

WVU Tech returns to action Thursday, Oct. 1, on the road against the University of Rio Grande. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Rio Grande, Ohio.
