HARDEEVILLE, S.C. — WVU Tech women's soccer held SCAD Savannah scoreless after halftime and created its best chances down the stretch Friday evening, but a pair of first-half goals proved to be the difference in a 2-0 road loss. The result moved the Golden Bears to 2-2 on the season.
SCAD opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Haidyn Jenkins found the back of the net off an assist from Irma Olesen at 18:43. Freshman goalkeeper Irene Saldaña had already made two saves in the opening 13 minutes to keep the match scoreless before SCAD broke through.
SCAD added its second goal shortly before halftime. Lovisa Henell scored at 39:38 off an assist from Chloe Campbell, sending SCAD into the break with a 2-0 advantage. The Golden Bears were held without a shot in the opening 45 minutes while Saldaña made two saves.
WVU Tech began to find more room after the break. Senior Carson Barr produced Tech's first shot with a header that went wide in the 56th minute after a Korinne Potter corner kick. The Golden Bears continued to work their way forward and earned all three of their corner kicks in the second half.
Sophomore Marcela Kalb sent an attempt high in the 77th minute before freshman Shiloh Goodwin put a shot wide in the 84th. Junior Julia Silva followed less than a minute later with Tech's best chance of the night, putting an attempt on goal that was stopped by SCAD goalkeeper Saga Bryntesson.
The Golden Bears also kept SCAD off the board throughout the second half. Saldaña made three more saves after halftime, including a stop on Cali Wuestefeld in the 86th minute, to finish with five saves over the full 90 minutes.
Silva, Barr, Goodwin and Kalb accounted for WVU Tech's four shots, with Silva putting the lone attempt on goal. Tech finished with four shots and three corner kicks, all after halftime, while SCAD recorded 17 shots and seven shots on goal.
The loss puts WVU Tech at 2-2 overall after four road matches to begin the season.

WVU Tech remains in the Savannah area Sunday, Sept. 6, for a neutral-site matchup with Southeastern University. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Savannah, Georgia.
