Heath Storey

Heath Storey joined the WVU Tech program in January of 2018.

Before joining the Golden Bear program, Storey spent three years as Director of Player Development and Assistant Coach at Marshall University.  Marshall saw record-breaking success during Storey’s tenure.  In 2016, the Herd set a program record with 34 overall wins as well as 21 wins in C-USA play. Marshall boasted its highest-ever RPI of 60. The team featured three C-USA All-Conference first team member, one C-USA All-Conference second team member, a member of the All-Freshman team as well as the C-USA Newcomer of the Year. 

The 2016 and 2017 MLB amateur drafts featured five players from the Herd and one undrafted signee. In 2016, Corey Bird was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the seventh round with the 203rd overall pick. Burris Warner was the second player drafted in the 22nd round to the Detroit Tigers. JD Hammer followed in the 24th round to the Colorado Rockies. Parker Danciu rounded out the group in the 39th round to the Atlanta Braves. Aaron Bossi was then signed by the New York Yankees as an undrafted free agent.  The 2017 draft saw Tyler Ratliff get drafted in the 17th round with the 524th overall pick to the Texas Rangers.

Storey spent the 2014 season at Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL as assistant coach.  The 2014 Saints team featured 8 players who went on to sign with MLB affiliated teams.  This included four draft picks, one in the top ten rounds, along with four undrafted free agent deals. 

Prior to returning to Flager, 2013 was spent as the head coach at North Pemiscot High School in Missouri and 2012 was spent as an assistant at Ponte Vedra High School.  Ponte Vedra was the Florida State High School 5A runner-up in 2012. 

Storey has served pitching coach during the summers in two different locations.  2015 was spent with the Wisconsin Woodchucks for the prestigious Northwoods League.  The Woodchucks team featured six future draft picks. In the summer of 2014, Storey served as the pitching coach for the Amsterdam Mohawks of the Perfect Game College Baseball League. The Mohawks won the regular season and postseason tournament with a 40-11 record and held a league-leading ERA of 2.59.  The 2014 Amsterdam roster consisted of five future draft picks including three pitchers taken in the top ten rounds.

A native of Kennett, Mo., Storey attended Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Mo., and helped to lead Vikings to national rankings in both the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Storey graduated with a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Flagler College, where he completed his collegiate career as a relief pitcher for the Saints.
