Luke Scherzer joined the Golden Bears as an assistant baseball coach for the 2019-2020 season. Luke played college baseball at Virginia Tech where he spent time as a weekend starter and a closer. He also played for the Harwich Mariners in the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2015 and 2018, becoming a member of the Cape Cod All-Star Team in 2015.
Scherzer earned his bachelor's degree with a double major in sociology and criminology with a minor in peace studies. Luke is currently earning a master's degree in instructional technology at Virginia Tech.Â

Off the field, the Powhatan, Virginia native enjoys hanging out with friends and family, fishing, traveling and playing golf. Luke is passionate about player development and is excited to begin his collegiate coaching career in Beckley, West Virginia.
