Mike Adkins enters his first year as a coach with the Golden Bears Cross Country and Track & Field teams (with a focus on the Women’s Distance and Mid-Distance group).
Prior to joining WVU Tech, Coach Adkins served as a Volunteer Assistant Coach for Cross Country at Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV (2018). There, he helped oversee individual runners to MSAC Conference and WVSSAC AAA Region III wins, a top 3 finish at the WVSSAC AAA State Championship, and a WVSSAC AAA Region III Championship for both the boys and girls teams. He also recently served as the Assistant Coach for Cross Country (2016) and Girls Track & Field (2016-2017) at Pikeview High School in Princeton, WV. During his tenure there, he helped lead the Girls Track and Field team to a 2016 WVSSAC Region III AA Championship and team qualifiers to the WVSSAC AA State Championships for Girls Cross Country in 2016 and Girls Track and Field in 2016 and 2017.
Coach Adkins is a Level 1 Certified Coach with USA Track and Field. He is also listed on the Coaches Registry and is a Phidippides Award recipient with that same organization. He is a member of the Southern West Virginia Road Runners Club and enjoys participating in local 5K races.
Coach Adkins is a licensed Professional Engineer and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from West Virginia University and a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management from Marshall University. He is a native of Beckley, WV and currently resides in Daniels, WV with his wife Angela and son Max.
