The WVU Tech Athletic Department has announced its Golden Bear Athletes of the Week for Dec. 8–14, 2025. This week's honors go to sophomore distance runner Evan McElwayne and junior guard Cadence Stewart of women's basketball following standout performances on the national and conference stages.

Evan McElwayne (Clarksburg, W.Va.)

McElwayne represented the Golden Bears at the NAIA Marathon Classic, delivering a strong performance in his first competitive marathon. He finished 42nd overall in a deep national field with a time of 2:53:34, averaging a 6:37 per mile pace across 26.2 miles.

The sophomore ran consistently throughout the race, maintaining composure late and showcasing the preparation and mental toughness required to compete at the national level.
