Freshman Dirk Ponchak has been named the student-athlete of the week for November 21 through 27.
 
The 5’11” freshman dominated the mats at the Sam Case Duals hosted by by McDaniel College this past weekend in Maryland.  He lead the Golden Bears to a 24-12 victory over USCAA rival Southern Virginia University going 3-0 during his matches.
 
Ponchak defeated UMBC’s Curtis Taylor with a 9-0 major decision while he crushed McDaniel’s Josh Moore 17-1.  In his final match of the day, Ponchak jumped from his normal 165 lb. class to the 184 lb. class and over powered SVU’s Jonathan Barrett with a pin at 5:35.
 
Ponchak is a mechanical engineering technology major from McConnelsville, Ohio.
