Men's Soccer Defeats Laurel University

HIGH POINT, North Carolina - The WVU Tech men's soccer team used 12 goals from seven different players en route to a 12-1 victory over Laurel University Wednesday evening. Freshman Alex Pastor led the way with three goals while junior Joaquin Rodriguez, freshman Joao Gigli (on his debut) and senior Glenroy Miller each put two in the back of the net.

The Golden Bears now hold a 6-1-1 record for the season. Tech outshot Laurel 20 attempts to four in its sixth win this season.

Sophomore Ryan Baker put the Golden Bears on the board early, netting an unassisted first goal of the match and marking his second of the season.

Tech got several good looks throughout the first half with goals (assists) coming from junior Carlos Sendín (Baker), two in a row from Gigli (junior Felipe Sozinho and sophomore Prince Idornigie) and Sendín with his second (freshman David Ayotebi).

The Gold and Blue wasted no time in the second half to get on the board again and scored seven goals over the next 45 minutes. Rodriguez (Miller) and Miller with two goals (freshmen Miguel Casado and Gigli) took the score to 8-1.

Pastor followed that up for the hat trick with three Golden Bear goals in a row off assists from junior Juan Suarez and Rodriguez. To finish out the game, the combinaiton of Rodriguez (goal) and Pastor (assist) took the final score to 12-1.

Goalkeeper sophomore Renato Gomes got the win and the start, stopping one ball. Freshman Pol Bernaldo saw 25 minutes in front of the net, marking one save and one goal allowed. Sophomore Hunter Moles defended the net for Tech in the final 20 minutes of play. Gomes marked the win, boosting his record this season to 1-0.

WVU Tech hits the road for their next match-up against Asbury College (Kentucky). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Oct. 4 in Wilmore, Kentucky. Live stats and video will be available, links can be found at Game Day Central.
