PHILIPPI, West Virginia - Starting out the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay as well as an NAIA qualifying time the women of WVU Tech swimming proved that they are out to make a name for themselves this season.
The 200 medley relay team of juniors
Rubhi Garcia-Mercado and
Shannon Wiercioch, freshman
Kendra Monnin and sophomore
Francine Meyer improved the school record by 4.91 seconds, clocking a time of 2:00.66 and capturing the win over Alderson Broaddus who came in at 2:03.25.
Leading the charge in the individual events were Monnin and Meyer, both winning two events a piece. Monnin won the 200 IM (2:16.13) and 100 Breast (1:11.16) with NAIA National "A" cuts in both. Meyer captured her wins in the 100 Fly (1:00.92), a NAIA National "A" cut, and the 500 Free (5:41.61).

th in the 200 Free, Garcia-Mercado 4
th in the 100 Back, freshman
Rebecca McDaniel, 3
rd in the 100 Free and 4
th in the 50 Free and freshman
Erika Stoffel, 4
th in the 100 Free and 5
th in the 50 Free.
Finishing the evening, the 400 Freestyle relay of Garcia-Mercado, Stoffel, McDaniel and Wiercioch took 2
nd with a time of 4:27.33.
The Golden Bears are back in action Oct. 10 and 11 at Marshall University where they will compete in the WV State Games.
