VIENNA, West Virginia - The WVU Tech men's soccer team took their second win in as many days Monday afternoon with a shutout over Ohio Valley University. The Golden Bears improve to 4-1 while the Fighting Scots fall to 0-7.
The shutout marks the third for the Golden Bears' 2014 season. Tech scored 11 goals against the Fighting Scots in 90 minutes of play in Vienna, West Virginia.
Scoring came from juniors
Sam Laughton and
Craig Mitchell, sophomore
Tobee Oleyele and freshmen
Joaquin Rodriguez,
Miguel Casado,
Viktor Zlovic and
Sven Biansumba. Laughton, Biansumba, Casado and Oleyele tallied two goals each.
Tech started their scoring efforts a little over a minute into the game when Mitchell found the back of the net off the assist of junior
Juan Suarez. The captain, Mitchell, now has two goals in 2014. Rodriguez struck next for his second goal of the season in the ninth minute to give the Golden Bears a quick 2-0 lead.
The team did not let up, scoring four more goals in the first half, including assists from sophomore
Daniel Ramirez and freshmen
Nestor Calzada,
Alex Pastor and
Pepe Segarra.
Zlovic posted the final score for the Gold and Blue in the 89
th minute off Pastor's third assist for a final of 11-0. Zlovic and Ramirez also posted assists in the second half.
Freshman
Pol Bernaldo (2-0) started in goal for the win after 45 minutes of play. Sophomore
Renato Gomes recorded a save in the second half for the Golden Bears.
The Golden Bears will continue their full road schedule this week as they travel to York, Pennsylvania Wednesday, Sept. 24. Kickoff against Penn State York is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
