NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia - The WVU Tech men's soccer team has been voted third in the United States Athletic Association (USCAA) this season, as announced in the fall coaches' poll-week one released Friday.

The USCAA coaches' poll includes regionally selected experienced coaches, sports information directors and athletic directors who vote based on win/loss record, strength of schedule, USCAA power rankings, head-to-head contests against USCAA opponents, common opponents and score differentials.

University of Maine at Fort Kent, 2013 USCAA National Championship runner-up, was ranked at the top with 300 points. Bryant & Stratton College (Syracuse) was second with 290 points, followed by the Golden Bears with 284 points.

Leading the way for WVU Tech this season is freshman Sven Biansumba who has scored six goals, followed closely by senior Glenroy Miller who has four goals and three assists for the Golden Bears in 2014. Junior Sam Laughton also has four goals to go with his two assists.

In the goal, look out for sophomore Hunter Moles and freshman Pol Bernaldo to defend the net for the Golden Bears.

The Golden Bears currently hold a record of 5-1-1, netting 35 goals as a team while allowing just five goals from their opponents. Tech has recorded three shutouts of the five games they have won this year.

Recently, Tech took a 6-1 victory over Penn State York off the goals of Miller (2), seniors Roberto Martinez and Zach Carnahan, junior Craig Mitchell and sophomore Ryan Baker. The next day, the Golden Bears took on the second ranked team, Bryant & Stratton. The match-up ended after double overtime in a 1-1 tie between the teams. Biansumba marked the lone goal for Tech.

Next for men's soccer is a game Oct. 1 against Laurel University in High Point, North Carolina. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
