Tech Draws Against Ohio Valley, 2-2

VIENNA, West Virginia - The WVU Tech women's soccer team and Ohio Valley University played to a 2-2 draw Monday afternoon in Vienna, West Virginia. The Golden Bears move to 1-3-2 while the Fighting Scots are now 0-5-1.

Tech struck first as senior Creshana Jones drew the foul in the box in the 27th minute. Jones converted on the penalty kick, sailing the ball past Ohio Valley's goalkeeper Kourtney Breighner and grabbing her 16th career goal.

Fellow senior, Seirrah Soto also found the back of the net after the perfect pass from Jones, who marked the assist, in the second half (65:51). Soto's effort took the Golden Bears to a 2-0 lead.

The Fighting Scots retaliated quickly, Ashley Wilcox netted a goal in the 68th minute and followed that up just ten minutes later to knot the score 2-2.

For the remainder of regulation, the teams traded shots, but neither could add to the scoreboard.

In the first of two 10-minute overtime sessions the Gold and Blue managed five shots and OVU had just two, while neither produced a goal. The same outcome in double overtime, no score, resulted in the final 2-2 tie after Tech got off two shots and the Fighting Scots none.

The Golden bears were able to outshoot the Fighting Scots 16-14. As a team, Tech had 11 shots on goal. Soto, Jones and freshmen Ruby Bingham and Tyler Graves tallied two shots on goal apiece.

The teams also ended even on corner kicks, 5-5.

Sophomore Morgan Manning and freshman Martha Reyna spent time in the net. Manning saved four shots in 75 minutes of play and Reyna turned away one shot in 45 minutes.

Tech will next head to the University of Rio Grande Saturday, Sept. 27. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
