Volleyball Drops Road Contests at Pikeville



PIKEVILLE, Kentucky - The WVU Tech volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday at the University of Pikeville, losing to UPIKE, 3-0 and Cincinnati Christian University, 3-2. Match two finished with 58 Golden Bear kills, the most for the team in a single match since Oct. 22, 2011 (59 vs. Blufield). The losses drop Tech's record to 2-14.

UPIKE swept the Golden Bears, 25-17, 25-20 and 29-27. Tech won the first two sets in the nightcap against CCU (29-29, 25-18), but the Eagles rebounded to rattle off three consecutive set wins 26-24, 26-24 and 15-13.

The Golden Bears were led on the day by senior Haley Pauley, who recorded a tri-match high 19 kills against CCU and three aces while serving a team-high two aces vs. Pikeville. Pauley also tallied three kills against the Bears and eight digs vs. the Eagles.

Sophomore Keyonna Morrow checked in on Saturday with a new career-high of 14 kills in match two combined with two kills vs. UPIKE for 16 total on the day. The sophomore also notched eight digs, three blocks and two aces.

Junior Jacque Carroll produced a career-high 29 assists in the nightcap for the Gold and Blue and marked eight against the Bears. Fellow setter Michala Dean, a redshirt freshman, had a total of 26 assists for Tech. Carroll also served a career- and match-high five aces against CCU while producing 10 kills and four blocks Saturday.

Sophomores Brianna Bench and Mackenzie Snare led the way for Tech against UPIKE with six and four kills respectively. Bench finished with 11 kills on the day while Snare had nine and both had two blocks a piece.

Junior libero Chelsea Dean continues to pay immediate dividends for Tech, as the St. Andrews transfer had 26 digs at the tri-match, marking match-highs in each contest.

The Golden Bears will travel again to face off against the Wasps of Emory & Henry College in Emory, Virginia. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
