SALEM, West Virginia - The WVU Tech men's basketball team dropped an 83-72 decision to Salem International University Saturday afternoon at the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium in Salem, West Virginia.
The Golden Bears are now 13-5 this season while the Tigers grab their first victory and hold a record of 1-10.
Tech was paced by five players in double figures with seniors
Jauries Thomas and
Sharife Sergeant leading the way with 16 points each. Fellow senior
Jaren Marino recorded 15 points and all three posted double-doubles with 16, 10 and 13 rebounds respectively.
Rounding out the top contributors for the Gold and Blue were sophomore
Ra'Shaud Kincaid (12 points) and senior
Leon Cooper, Jr. (11 points). Kincaid had a team-high five assists while Cooper dished three.
As a team, the Gold and Blue held a 50-31 rebounding edge over the Tigers. For the game, Tech shot 40.7 percent (24-for-59) from the field and 64 percent (16-for-25) from the foul line.
Salem International was led by Cortney Pitts, who scored a game-high 28 points.
The Golden Bears return to the court January 16-17 for the Fisher College Classic in Boston, Massachusetts.
