Jaren Marino won't forget anytime soon as the WVU Tech men's basketball team defeated Virginia University of Lynchburg 93-52 and Marino tallied his 1,000
th career point as a Golden Bear in front of a home crowd packed with family and friends.
Tech is now riding a three-game win streak and holds a record of 16-5 this season. The team is currently ranked third in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
Coming into the game, Marino was averaging 11.6 points per game and was just eight points shy to join the prestigious scoring club. Marino scored his 1,000
th point from the three-point line with 3:45 left in the first half, his third three-pointer of the game. The Dunbar, West Virginia native finished with 16 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Sharife Sergeant and
Jauries Thomas and freshmen
Nathan McNeil and
Juwuan Wilson joined Marino in double-figure scoring. Sergeant posted 18 points on 8-for-12 shooting for the game-high while pulling down 11 boards. Thomas had a double-double effort of 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.Â
McNeil recorded a new career-high with 15 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the field, including 3-for-3 from three-point range. Wilson had 14 points for his new career-high and six defensive rebounds for Tech.
Tech held significant advantages in field goal percentage (51.4-33.3), rebounds (48-30) and points in the paint (52-16).
The Golden Bears will host Georgetown College January 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Baisi Athletic Center.
