MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - Senior
Leon Cooper, Jr. scored a game-high 24 points and the WVU Tech men's basketball team defeated Shawnee State University 75-62 Wednesday evening. The Golden Bears boost their record to 13-4 while the Bears fall to 6-9.
Cooper had an efficient shooting night, making 7-of-12 shots and going a perfect 6-for-6 at the foul line. The senior also knocked down four three-pointers through out the night.
Tech also saw a double-double from senior
Jauries Thomas who had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior
Sharife Sergeant finished out the top contributors for the Golden Bears with 13 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore
Ra'Shaud Kincaid led the game with eight assists to go with his six points and a game-high three steals.
As a team, Tech went 23-for-58 (39.7 percent) from the field. The Gold and Blue won the rebounding battle by one (35-34) and also held advantages over Shawnee State in points off turnovers (25-9), second chance points (16-14) and bench points (13-9).
The game featured ten lead changes and four tied scores. The Bears were led by Sean Elliot with 14 points and five boards.
WVU Tech will head to Salem, West Virginia to face off against the Tigers of Salem International University, Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
