MONTGOMERY, West Virginia — The WVU Tech women's basketball team defeated the University of Northwestern (Ohio) in their season and home opener, 75-49 Saturday afternoon in the Baisi Athletic Center in front of a Homecoming crowd.
It was the first regular season game of the year for the Golden Bears, now marking a 1-0 record.

Rocio Ruiz-Berdejo scored a double-double with a game-high 19 points and rebounds to go with two steals. Fellow classmate
Courtney Fisher also hit double digits with 12 points while pulling down five rebounds. Sophomore
Brett Justice rounded out Tech's top scorers with 10 points. Justice also marked six rebounds.
Tech outrebounded the Racers 47-27 including 17 offensive boards. The Golden Bears were able to force 15 turnovers, scoring 12 points on the miscues.
The Gold and Blue shot 29-for-56 (51.8 percent) from the field while going 10-for-13 (76.9 percent) at the free throw line.
The team will continue their season when they host Bluefield College (Virginia) Tuesday, November 3.
