MONTGOMERY, West Virginia — Sophomore
Ryan Atkins scored a game-high 29 points and the WVU Tech men's basketball team defeated NCAA DII Davis & Elkins College Wednesday evening. The Golden Bears boost their record to 2-1 with the victory in the Baisi Athletic Center.
Atkins had an efficient shooting night, making 9-for-15 shots from the field and going 10-for-12 at the foul line. The Miami, Florida native also pulled down eight rebounds to go with a game-high three steals and two assists.
Tech saw a double-double effort from junior
Paul Stone who had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Senior
Eddie Gordon finished out the top offensive contributors for the Golden Bears with 11 points. Junior
Patrick Gnagbo marked a game-high 16 rebounds while posting six points.
The Gold and Blue went 26-for-62 (41.9 percent) from the field while holding the Senators to 22-for-69 (31.9 percent) shooting.
WVU Tech won the rebounding battle (49-45) and also held advantages over Davis & Ekins in points off turnovers (23-8), second chance points (15-14), points in the paint (38-18) and fast break points (12-2).
The team will next head to Georgetown College (Kentucky) Saturday, November 7 for a 6 p.m. match-up.
