Sharife Sergeant and
Leon Cooper, Jr. scored 20 and 19 points respectively and the WVU Tech men's basketball team defeated Washington Adventist University 83-80 in an overtime victory Wednesday evening.
The Golden Bears improve to 18-7 for their 2014-15 campaign while the Shock drop to 11-16. Tech had fallen to Washington Adventist November 22 during the Baisi Classic, 89-87.
For the game, Sergeant went 8-for-16 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free throw line while grabbing nine rebounds, blocking two Shock balls and giving out an assist. Cooper was 8-for-10 from the bonus with seven rebounds and a steal.
The seniors were assisted on the offensive end by fellow classmates
Jaren Marino, who finished with 13 points, and
Jauries Thomas, who posted 15 points. Thomas had a strong showing on the glass, recording the double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds.
Marino registered a stat line that also included five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Sophomore
Ra'Shaud Kincaid dished a game-high six assists to go with his five points, four steals and two rebounds.
As a team, the Gold and Blue shot 49.2 percent (29-for-59) from the field and 55.9 percent (19-for-34) from the foul line.
The Shock were led by Lebrent Walker who produced a double-double effort of 16 points and 10 rebounds.
WVU Tech will have a two-game home stand beginning Friday when they host Ohio Christian University and will finish Sunday with Penn State Beaver at 4:00 p.m.
