MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - For the third consecutive competition, the WVU Tech men's basketball team has walked away with a victory. The Golden Bears (19-7) defeated Ohio Christian University (16-12) Friday evening, 72-49 in the Baisi Athletic Center.
The Trailblazers will be joining the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) with Tech to begin the 2015-16 season.
Senior
Jauries Thomas had a dominant performance for the Golden Bears, going 10-for-11 from the field and 8-for-10 from the bonus for a game-high 28 points. Thomas earned the double-double with 10 rebounds while recording three blocks a steal and an assist.
Fellow classmate
Sharife Sergeant's double-double effort came from 11 rebounds and 10 points, also dishing four assists for Tech. Senior
Jaren Marino had nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Sophomore
Ra'Shaud Kincaid finished the night with a game-high six assists to add to his four points and three rebounds. Kincaid now totals 116 assists for the season and is currently ranked No. 1 in the NAIA DI for assist/turnover ratio (3.667).
The Golden Bears shot 26-for-50 (52.0 percent) from the field while holding their opponent to a 17-for-56 (30.4 percent) shooting performance.
Welsey Russell paced the Trailblazers with 14 points and five rebounds.
Tech will finish their two-game home stand Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in the Baisi Athletic Center when Penn State Beaver travels to Montgomery, West Virginia.
