MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - WVU Tech men's basketball defeated West Virginia University at Parkersburg for the second time this season, 95-80 in the Baisi Athletic Center. The Golden Bears (21-8) took the first victory over the Hawks during the Joe Manchin Classic, 95-56 (December 12, 2014).
Tech had six players score in double-digits while senior
Leon Cooper, Jr. led the scoring efforts with 16 points, including a 5-for-7 effort at the free throw line, recording six assists, four steals and a rebound.
Seniors
Jauries Thomas and
Sharife Sergeant finished with 14 points each. Thomas recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds, including nine offensive while blocking a game-high three Hawk balls. Sergeant was 6-for-10 from the field and pulled down nine boards while dishing two assists and marking a block.
Rounding out the top offensive contributors for the Gold and Blue were sophomore
Ra'Shaud Kincaid (11 points), senior
Jaren Marino (11 points) and freshman
Nick Light (10 points). Marino produced six assists and rebounds while Light and Kincaid had five boards each.
As a team, the Golden Bears went 37-for-78 (47.4 percent) from the field while shooting 12-for-22 (54.5 percent) from the bonus.
Tech will play again Sunday, March 1 when they host Penn State Beaver in the Baisi Athletic Center for Senior Day, action set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
