WVU Tech Splits Doubleheader vs. Glenville State

MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - The WVU Tech softball team took their third victory of the season in Tuesday afternoon doubleheader action, defeating Glenville State College in game one, 5-4 then falling in the night cap, 15-9 in eight innings.

The Golden Bears move to 3-7 while the Pioneers boost their record to 4-8.

Game One | WVU Tech 5, Glenville State 4  
Senior Kat Lively registered her first home run of the season, her fifth career homer, in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring junior Megan Blythe and freshman MiKayla Craze for three RBI and to give the Golden Bears the lead, 3-1.

In the circle, sophomore Mackenzie Wilson (3-1) held the Pioneers to just two hits in seven innings of work. Wilson struck out three batters while giving up just one earned run.

Lively was 2-for-4 at the plate while seven other Golden Bears had a hit each, including a double from Wilson.

Game Two | WVU Tech 9, Glenville State 15 (Eight Innings)
The Golden Bears had nine players tally at least one hit in the extra-inning loss, including three from freshman MaKayla Waugh and two from Craze. Lively and freshman Kyla Shull hit a double for the Golden Bears.

Shull drew the start for Tech, pitching 4.0 innings, scattering six hits and seven earned runs while striking out three. Freshman Samantha Sirles (0-3) saw 3.0 innings of work for the loss, striking out two while giving up two hits.

Tech will next host Shawnee State University at Terry E. Ellis Field in Smithers, West Virginia, Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
