HARTSVILLE, South Carolina - The WVU Tech softball team took their first victory of this young season in Monday afternoon doubleheader action, defeating Coker College in game one, 1-0 then falling in the night cap, 10-5.
The Golden Bears move to 1-3 while the Cobras improve to 6-7.

Genna Trippett registered the Golden Bears first home run of the season.
On the mound, sophomore
Mackenzie Wilson (1-0) held the Cobras to just four hits in seven innings of work. Wilson struck out three batters while walking only one in her second career shutout win.

Kayla Harbin and
MaKayla Waugh had a hit each. Harbin's hit was a double to right field in the sixth inning.

Freshman
Samantha Sirles (0-2) drew the start for Tech, pitching 3.0 innings for the loss. Sirles scattered eight hits and five earned runs while striking out one. Trippett saw 1.0 inning in the circle, striking out and walking one Cobra.
Tech will next travel to Elizabethtown, Kentucky to participate in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Preseason Tournament where they will face St. Mary's College of Maryland, Davenport University, Penn State New Kensington and Goshen College, March 7-8.
