WVU Tech Drops 12 Inning Thriller to #3 Georgia Gwinnett

BECKLEY, West Virginia - The WVU Tech baseball team fell to No. 3 (NAIA DI) Georgia Gwinnett College Friday afternoon, 4-3 after 12 innings of play. With the loss, the Golden Bears hold a record of 27-22, the Grizzlies improve to 42-9.

At the plate, sophomores Hunter Greco and Trevor Lam and junior Xavier Barriere led the way, each tallying a hit with the sophomores posting a RBI each.

Junior Dylan Harvey now has 24 stolen bases, registering two against the Grizzlies. Harvey is ranked No. 24 in the Nation (NAIA DI) in total stolen bases.

Tech starter, Austin Southcott finished on the mound after 7.0 innings of work with two earned runs on five hits, striking out seven opponents. Senior Craig Johnson (2-4) pitched four innings for the loss, scattering five hits while striking out four Grizzlies.

The Gold and Blue will finish the three-game series with a doubleheader against Georgia Gwinnett Saturday at Linda K. Epling Stadium, first pitch scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tech will celebrate their seniors, Zack Thomas, Zach Maynard, Johnson, Josh Smetana, Josh Spears, Austin Lucas, Cesar Chavez and Carlos Diaz.
