Tech Softball Splits with NCAA DII Bluefield State

SMITHERS, West Virginia - The WVU Tech softball team secured a doubleheader split versus NCAA DII foe Bluefield State College Friday afternoon at Terry E. Willis Field in Smithers, West Virginia by downing the Bears 16-1 (five innings) in game one before dropping the final contest, 4-1. The Golden Bears' record now stands at 12-22 while the Lady Blues move to 6-22 this season.

Senior Kat Lively was celebrated by the team and Golden Bear fans during today's home doubleheader. Lively finished 3-for-4 at the plate in game one, registering three runs scored, three stolen bases and two RBI.

Freshman MiKayla Waugh had a standout game for the Golden Bears, recording four RBI, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, including a home run and a double. Waugh also tallied a two runs scored and a stolen base.

Freshmen MaKayla Craze and Baylee Harless posted three RBI each with Harless marking two hits and a run scored and Craze scoring two runs.

Freshman Kyla Shull (2-3) pitched a complete game for the win, striking out four Lady Blues while giving up just one hit and one earned run.

Junior Breigh Renner produced two hits for the Golden Bears in the nightcap loss. Waugh, Stephanie Seewer and Peyton Fetty were 1-for-3 at the plate.

Freshman Samantha Sirles (0-7) drew the start in the circle for the loss, giving up two earned runs on five hits while striking out four opponents.

Tech will finish their regular season play with a doubleheader versus Ohio Christian University April 30 in Smithers, West Virginia.
