LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia - The WVU Tech baseball team lost its first game of the 2015 A.I.I. Conference Tournament Saturday, dropping a 3-1 decision to the No. 2 seed Cal State San Marcos. The loss means Tech (29-24) will face No. 6 seed Ashford University 12:00 p.m. Sunday in an elimination game.
Junior
Xavier Barriere was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI to mark the Golden Bears' lone hit. Fellow classmate
Dylan Harvey scored the run for Tech after reaching base on a catcher's interference.
The Golden Bears wasted little time getting on the scoreboard early as Barriere drove Harvey in as the first and second batters of the game, giving Tech the early 1-0 lead.
Cal State San Marcos retaliated with a run of its own in the bottom of the third before securing the game with a two-run home run in the seventh for the 3-1 victory.
Sophomore
Austin Southcott (6-1) pitched the complete game for his first loss of the season, striking out five batters and giving up three runs on eight hits.
