MEDIA, Pennsylvania — WVU Tech men's soccer opened their season Sunday afternoon in Media, Pennsylvania with a 9-0 shutout victory over Penn State Brandywine. Freshman
Harry Reilly recorded the hat trick with three goals, marking his first collegiate goal and assist, while sophomore
Francisco Neto netted two goals for the Golden Bears.
Tech also saw contributions from senior
Sam Laughton with two assists while junior
Drew Lytton, freshman
Thomas Holtz and sophomore
Scott Brown had a goal each. The other assists were dished by juniors
Prince Idornigie and
Daniel Ramirez and freshman
Matias Pazos.
Junior goalkeeper
Hunter Moles (1-0) recorded the shutout win with four saves for the Golden Bears.
The Golden Bears outshot the Nittany Lions 34-10 also holding advantage in corner kicks, 9-3.
Reilly and Neto led the team with seven shots (four on goal) each.
Tech has a full schedule of road contests next week, starting with a showdown against the 2014 USCAA National runners-up, University of Maine at Fort Kent on Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. in Fort Kent, Maine. The Gold and Blue finished their 2014 campaign with a National Championship and a 2-0 victory over UMFK.
The team will then travel to face Bryant & Stratton College (September 17) and Penn State York (September 18).
