No. 13 WVU Tech and No. 2 Rio Grande End in 1-1 Draw

Men's Soccer | River States Conference Game of the Week

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- In the River States Conference Game of the Week and Top 25 NAIA play, No. 13 WVU Tech men's soccer and No. 2 University of Rio Grande ended in a 1-1 draw after a double overtime battle Thursday evening. The Golden Bears are now 11-1-2, 3-0-1 (RSC) in 2016 while the RedStorm hold a record of 11-1-1, 3-0-1 (RSC).

Rio Grande struck first, posting a quick goal from Lucas Talaveira in the third minute of regulation. Tech scored the equalizer at 53:20 when freshman Ignacio Tellechea posted his 14th goal this season unassisted.

Defense ruled the rest of the game as neither team was able to score again even with extra time.

The Gold and Blue outshot Rio Grande 13-10 while the RedStorm held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-3.

Tellechea led the team with three shots on goal while senior Daniel Ramirez recorded one.

In goal, senior Hunter Moles (11-1-2) played all 110 minutes, stopping three balls.

The teams are currently tied for first in the conference and WVU Tech will continue RSC play when they host Point Park University Thursday, October 20 for Senior Night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Beckley, West Virginia.
