KINGSPORT, Tennessee -- Senior
Patrick Gnagbo finished with a double-double of 11 points and ten rebounds and the WVU Tech men's basketball team earned a 68-51 victory over Milligan College at the NAIA DII Showcase Sunday afternoon. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 3-3 while the Buffaloes fall to 4-5 on the season.
Tech extended a three point half-time lead to 25 points in the second half before settling for the 17 point victory in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Tech held Milligan to 32.7 percent (17-for-52) from the floor and out-rebounded the Buffaloes by 30.
"I was pleased with our defensive intensity and rebounding," boasted head coach
Bob Williams. "We've been waiting for this kind of defensive performance from our team."
The bench produced 23 of the 58 Gold and Blue rebounds including eight from junior
Kievonn Banks.
"Our bench played very well Sunday. This is something we can build upon as we start conference play," stated Williams.
Junior
Ryan Atkins led the game with 16 points to go with six rebounds while fellow classmate
Elisha Boone posted ten points and five rebounds.
Up next, Tech will begin River States Conference (RSC) play in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when they face Carlow University (Friday) and Point Park University (Saturday).
