Tech Bound for NAIA National Championship Quarterfinal

DELRAY BEACH, Florida — Half of the 2016 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship quarterfinals field was set during the first day of play on Monday at Hilltopper Stadium including No. 8 seed WVU Tech. The Gold and Blue will face No. 1 Hastings College on Wednesday, November 30 with a kickoff slated for 11 a.m. in Delray Beach, Florida.

RECORDS
  • The Golden Bears (18-2-2) enter the game after a 2-1 victory over No. 9 MidAmerica Nazarene November 28.
  • The Broncos (22-0) earned a spot in the quarterfinals with a victory off of penalty kicks against No. 16 Marymount College (California).

GOLDEN BEAR NOTES
  • Tech earned its first-ever victory at the final site.
  • The team has posted four goals compared to their opponents' two in the championship as of November 29.
  • The Gold and Blue are ranked No. 1 in the nation (NAIA DI) for total assists with 67 and No. 2 with 3.050 assists per game.
  • Junior Francisco Neto leads the team with 12 assists including two in the win over MidAmerica Nazarene.
  • Freshman Ignacio Tellechea leads the team with 49 points on 20 goals and nine assists.
  • Tellechea scored the winning goal in the second round against MNU.
  • Senior goalkeeper Hunter Moles (18-2-2) has 72 saves with a 0.818 save percentage in 2016.
  • Moles made eight crucial stops in the victory against MNU.

SCOUTING HASTINGS
  • Hastings earned their spot in the tournament with a 3-1 win over Concordia in the Great Plains Athletic Conference championship.
  • The Broncos made it to the final site of the championship with a 3-1 victory over Friends University in the opening round.
  • Hastings has tallied 13 shutouts in 2016.
  • The Broncos have outscored their opponents 82-16.
  • The team averages 21.14 shots per game and 9.91 shots on goal per game.
  • Hastings is led by sophomore forward Daniel Whitehall who has 33 goals and nine assists this season.
  • Junior goalkeeper Joe White has 40 saves towards his 0.714 save percentage in 2016 including eight in the tournament so far.
