BECKLEY, West Virginia -- The No. 2 seed WVU Tech men's soccer bested No. 3 Midway University in a shutout effort, 6-0 during a semifinal of the River States Conference (RSC) Tournament Wednesday evening.
Play started at 7 p.m. at the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Sports Complex in Beckley where the Golden Bears held Midway to two shots on goal in 90 minutes of play. As a team, the Gold and Blue finished with 19 shots on goal.
Tech saw four goal scorers in freshman
Ignacio Tellechea (12' and 17'), junior
Francisco Neto (49'), sophomore
Matias Pazos (55') and junior
Mark Magallanes (85'). The Eagles recorded an own goal in minute 24.
The assists were credited to Pazos (12'), junior
Francisco Neto (17'), Tellechea (49') and freshman
Manuel Garcia (85'), marking his first collegiate assist.
Up next, WVU Tech will face No. 1 seed University of Rio Grande in a championship rematch from 2015 on Saturday, November 12 in Rio Grande, Ohio. Kickoff for the tournament final is scheduled for 7 p.m. In their last meeting, the teams ended in a 1-1 draw after double overtime in Beckley (October 13).
