Golden Bears Fall at Asbury

Men's Basketball

WILMORE, Kentucky — The WVU Tech men's basketball team traveled to Asbury University Thursday for a Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Association (KIAC) contest in Wilmore, Kentucky. Despite a double-double effort by sophomore Ryan Atkins, the Eagles (14-15, 6-9 KIAC) took a 91-77 victory over the Golden Bears (15-12, 7-7 KIAC).

Atkins poured in 30 points, good for a team-best, while pulling down ten rebounds and recording two assists and steals each.

Junior Paul Stone posted 17 points and four rebounds while fellow classmate Matthew Kallead had nine points and senior Eddie Gordon had eight. Sophomore Juwuan Wilson finished the game with six points and five rebounds.

The team finished 25-for-57 (43.9 percent) from the field while Asbury went 29-for-55 (52.7 percent). Tech forced 16 turnovers while committing just 12 miscues themselves.

Trenton Thompson paced the Eagles and the game with 35 points.

The Gold and Blue will continue conference play when they host Indiana University Kokomo in the Baisi Athletic Center Tuesday, February 16 on senior night. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
