MONTGOMERY, West Virginia — WVU Tech men's basketball, friends and Golden Bear fans honored senior
Eddie Gordon Tuesday evening in the Baisi Athletic Center as Tech took a 96-85 victory over Indiana University Kokomo in Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) action. The Gold and Blue now hold a winning 8-7 record in the conference and 16-12 overall while the Cougars fall to 7-20, 4-11 (KIAC) this season.
Tech was led by sophomore
Ryan Atkins behind a triple-double effort of 37 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds. Atkins enjoyed two new career-highs in the win with the assists and by blocking two opponent balls. The Miami, Florida native is currently ranked No. 6 in total scoring (644) and No. 7 in points per game (23.852) in the nation (NAIA DII).
Gordon finished the game with 21 points including a 5-for-9 effort from three-point range which tied his career-high. The guard, who hails from South Charleston, West Virginia, dished four assists while grabbing three rebounds. Gordon has averaged 8.2 points per contest in 114 games played for WVU Tech and has posted a total of 953 points, earning captain status this season.
Junior
Paul Stone contributed with 13 points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes of play while freshman
Brandon Hamilton poured in ten points for a career-high including a perfect 2-for-2 effort from beyond the arc. Junior
Patrick Gnagbo pulled down eight boards to go with seven points and junior
Hunter Moles had seven rebounds.
As a team, Tech shot 52.5 percent (31-for-59) from the field while holding their opponent to 41.9 percent (26-for-62) from the floor. The Golden Bears won the rebounding game, 44-32 while also holding the advantage in points off turnovers (17-13), points in the paint (32-18) and fast break points (8-0).
Nick Teeter paced the Cougars with 24 points.
The Golden Bears will next head to Cincinnati Christian University Saturday for their final regular season game. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Cincinnati, Ohio.
