Golden Bears Defeat IU Kokomo 73-57 on Senior Night

MONTGOMERY, West Virginia — WVU Tech women's basketball celebrated seniors LaKisha Adkins, Elizabeth Evans and Courtney Fisher Tuesday evening in the Baisi Athletic Center as the Golden Bears defeated Indiana University Kokomo in Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) action, 73-57. Tech boosts their record with a second consecutive KIAC win to 11-16, 6-10 (KIAC) while the Cougars fall to 9-19, 4-13 (KIAC).

The Gold and Blue were led by Fisher with a game-best 24 points on 11-for-22 shooting from the floor. Fisher also pulled down six rebounds while grabbing a game-high four steals. The Vallejo, California native is averaging 3.923 offensive boards per game, good for a No. 12 ranking in the nation (NAIA DII).

Adkins finished with 16 points and five assists. The guard, who hails from Huntington, West Virginia, also had four rebounds and two steals. With 107 assists this season, Adkins is currently ranked No. 22 in the nation (NAIA DII).

Evans went 2-for-5 from beyond the arc towards her eight points for WVU Tech. The Tug Valley High School standout had four assists while bringing down three rebounds including two offensive, a new career-high for the guard.

Freshman Alexandra Combs poured in 13 points to go with six rebounds for Tech. Fellow classmate Savannah Shamblin dished a game-high seven assists while recording six points and three steals and sophomore Julie Conway finished with a team-high eight boards and four points.

The Golden Bears forced 28 opponent miscues while picking up 16 steals and 22 points off the turnovers. Tech held advantages in points off turnovers (22-2), second chance points (12-8), points in the paint (38-28) and fast break points (6-2).

Whitney Wilson paced the Cougars with 17 points.

The Golden Bears will next head to Cincinnati Christian University Saturday for their final regular season game. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Cincinnati, Ohio.
