Softball Bested by Glenville State, 3-2 and 6-3

GLENVILLE, West Virginia — The WVU Tech softball team lost a pair of games Wednesday afternoon at Glenville State College. The Golden Bears (15-23) fell 3-2 in game one before dropping the nightcap 6-3 to the Pioneers (14-29).

Tech's runs came in the third inning when freshman Skylar Connelly scored fellow classmate Sarah Dohn before freshman Rachel Rusch plated Connelly off a one-base knock.

The Pioneers answered back in the fourth inning with three runs off of two hits and a Golden Bear error. The teams held each other to no runs and a combined two hits to finish out game one and give Glenville State the 3-2 victory.

Senior Genna Trippett (1-5) pitched a complete game for the loss, giving up five hits and two earned runs. Trippett walked three batters while striking out two.

Junior Lexi Huck hit her first home run of the season and a career second to plate two of Tech's runs by crossing Trippett and herself.

Trippett posted her second home run in the last three games and 11th this season for the third and final run for the Gold and Blue in the 6-3 loss to the Pioneers. The Parkersburg, West Virginia native is currently ranked No. 8 in the nation (NAIA) for .313 home runs per game and No. 15 for total home runs (11).

R. Rusch and Trippett had two hits each to lead Tech while sophomore Kayla Jones had the only double of the series for the Golden Bears.

Freshman Kaitlyn Sisler (2-1) was dealt the loss after 2.0 innings in the circle, scattering six earned runs and five hits while striking out one Pioneer. Junior Mackenzie Wilson drew the start and struck out three batters while giving up two and hits and walking four in 4.0 innings of work.

The next ten games for WVU Tech will count towards their KIAC record (4-4), starting with a doublheader in New Albany, Indiana when they travel to Indiana University Southeast Friday for a 3 p.m. start.
