EAST BANK, West Virginia — WVU Tech baseball has extended their winning streak to nine after a doubleheader sweep of Cincinnati Christian University in KIAC play Friday afternoon. The Golden Bears (27-12, 16-6 KIAC) defeated the Eagles (3-33, 2-20 KIAC) 11-2 and 23-3.
The 23 runs scored in the nightcap are the most in program history since at least 2007. The 27 wins are getting the Gold and Blue closer to passing the 30-win program record set last season.
The wins on the mound came from juniors
Austin Southcott (5-3) and
Jayson Sykora (5-1). The two combined for seven strikeouts including four credited to Sykora which tied his season-high. Southcott currently holds two No. 2 rankings in the conference with a total of 44 strikeouts and averaging 7.82 strikeouts per game.

The five Golden Bears who tallied hits in game one all had a multi-hit showing at the plate including three hits each from juniors
Tanner Levine and
Sebastian Gomez Herrera.
Levine was 3-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored and Herrera finished with three RBI and a run scored. Levine posted two doubles while Herrera had a double of his own and a two-run home run over the left field fence that plated him and junior
Trevor Lam.
Lam and seniors
Dylan Harvey and
Doug Prather had two hits a piece. Lam recorded three RBI and Harvey had one. Harvey recorded his 21
st stolen base of the season in the win.
Southcott scattered five hits and one earned run in 4.0 innings of work. Sophomore
Nick Brumfield finished the game, retiring three batters via strikes while giving up just three hits and one earned run.Â

The team combined for 17 hits including seven multi-base hits. Levine picked up four RBI off a home run while junior
Brady Groesbeck knocked a solo dinger in the fourth inning.

Sykora pitched for 5.0 innings, giving up eight hits and one run before freshman
Trey Dalton threw for Tech, scattering three hits and two earned runs while striking out a batter.
The teams will meet again tomorrow, Saturday at Douglas M. Epling Field to finish the four-game series with a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for noon in East Bank, West Virginia.
