CHARLOTTE, North Carolina -- The WVU Tech men's soccer team captured a 7-0 victory, their fourth consecutive, over Johnson and Wales University Charlotte Saturday afternoon in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Golden Bears now have four shutouts in 2016 and hold a record of 7-1-1.
Freshman
Eduardo Gutierrez recorded his fifth and sixth goals of 2016 while fellow classmate
Ignacio Tellechea recorded his sixth and seventh. Gutierrez was assisted by senior
Prince Idornigie (16') and freshman
Sergio Sanchez (17'). Tellechea was assisted by senior
Daniel Ramirez (27') and junior
Francisco Neto (33').
Neto netted a goal (18') off the assist of senior
Drew Lytton while Idornigie posted one in minute 45 off an assist from sophomore
Santiago Cruz. Recording the only Golden Bear goal in the second half, freshman
Carlos Tormo found the back of the net off another Lytton assist (81').
Senior goalkeeper
Hunter Moles (7-1-1) recorded his fourth shutout this season, recording one save in 90 minutes of play. Moles currently holds the No. 20 ranking in the nation (NAIA DI) for total saves (39).
The Gold and Blue outshot their opponent 21 (16) - 4 (1) while also holding the advantage in corner kicks 7-1.
Tech will kick off River States Conference (RSC) play Thursday, September 29 when they host Midway University in Beckley, West Virginia. Kickoff at the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Complex is scheduled for 8 p.m., following the women's Midway match-up.
