BECKLEY, West Virginia -- The WVU Tech men's soccer team is enjoying a five-game winning streak after earning their sixth shutout and first River States Conference (RSC) victory Thursday evening. The Golden Bears move to 8-1-1, 1-0 (RSC) after a 5-0 showing against Midway University who is now 2-4-1, 1-2 (RSC) in 2016.
Tech finished with 17 shots, 13 on goal while the Eagles posted six shots, four on goal. Tech also held the advantage in corner kicks, 8-0.
The goal contributors included seniors
Prince Idornigie (15') and
Daniel Ramirez (28' and 31'), junior
Francisco Neto (37') and freshman
Ignacio Tellechea (59'). The assists were credited to seniors
Matias Gandulfo and
Saul Montealegre, Tellechea (2x), Neto and sophomore
Matias Pazos.
In goal, senior
Hunter Moles (8-1-1) was credited with the win after 45 minutes of play and two saves. Freshman
Jorge Martinez guarded the net in the final half of the contest and recorded two saves.
The team will return to the pitch Saturday, October 1 when they host Brescia University for the RSC Game of the Week. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Complex.
